The MX-5 GT is the lightest and most powerful version of the Miata ever built. Designed to compete in the Britcar MSA British Endurance Championship this year, the MX-5 GT weighs just 1,874 pounds and produces a staggering 275-horsepower from a 2.0-liter four-cylinder engine.
Perhaps needless to say, this is one Miata that isn’t street legal. But, it has all the ingredients necessary to tear up the truck. Inside is a full roll-cage and a bevy of lightweight components including polycarbonate windows, carbon fiber body components, and ultra light weight alloy wheels.

Some have criticized the latest Miata for its weight as it now shares parts with the larger RX-8, which was a result of Ford’s cost cutting strategy. Without the influence of Ford, the next Miata will likely get back to its roots and is expected to receive a weight reduction.
