For drivers who like to burn rubber without burning through all their cash, Forbes magazine recently posted its list of the 10 fastest cars available on the market with MSRPs of under $30,000. And while a low sticker price didn’t translate into low 0-60 times for very many automakers, Mazda landed two different cars on the Forbes list: The Mazdaspeed3 and the Mazda6.

The former is one of the hottest of today’s hot hatches, packing a responsive 2.3-liter turbocharged engine that relies on technologies like direct-injection spark ignition to deliver 263 hp, 280 lb-ft of torque and EPA ratings of up to 25 mpg highway. The Mazdaspeed3 manages all that power via a short-throw six-speed manual transmission, along with features like a torque-sensing conical limited-slip differential, which enhances performance during cornering, and Mazda’s Advanced Torque Management System, which reduces torque steering and provides better control off the line. The bottom line for the Mazdaspeed3: A 0-60 time of just 6.4 seconds and a starting price of just $23,700.

Also in Forbes’ fast company was the Mazda6 s Grand Touring. Mazda’s sophisticated sports sedan relies on a 3.7-liter 24-valve V6 with variable valve timing for its motivation, and the engine’s 272 hp and 269 lb.-ft. of torque provides plenty—all of which is mated to Mazda’s six-speed Sport automatic transmission with Adaptive Shift Logic and manual-shift mode. InsideLine noted a 0-60 sprint of 6.4 seconds in the Mazda6, and the car’s sport-tuned suspension delivers similarly aggressive performance in the curves, too.
