2014 Mazda6 Earns “Top Safety Pick+” by Insurance Institute for Highway Safety

March 9th, 2013

Borgman Mazda is excited to announce that the all-new 2014 Mazda6 has earned a “Top Safety Pick+” by the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety (IIHS).  Mazda6 is the first Mazda vehicle to earn this new, more demanding designation by receiving a rating of “Good” on frontal moderate overlap, side, roof, and head restraint tests, and “Acceptable” on the new small overlap test. The 2014 Mazda6 arrived on our lot earlier last month and has been a hit among our Grand Rapids Mazda fans. So this news is just one more reason to take it for a spin!

“Receiving a ‘Top Safety Pick+’ ranking from IIHS demonstrates Mazda’s continued dedication to creating products that offer the highest levels of occupant crash protection combined with being fun to drive,” said Mazda President and CEO Jim O’Sullivan.

IIHS introduced the small overlap test in 2012 to further improve occupant protection in frontal crashes.  The small overlap test replicates what happens when the front corner of a car collides with another vehicle or an object like a tree or utility pole.  In the test, 25 percent of a car’s front end on the driver side strikes a 5-foot-tall rigid barrier at 40 mph. Mazda Crowned with KBB 5-Year Cost-to-Own Award

February 22nd, 2013

At Borgman Mazda, we hear a lot about awards, some of which are given out based on more solid criteria than others. This one, the Kelley Blue Book 5-Year Cost to Own awards, seems like one that new car shoppers should pay attention to.

The cost of a car goes far beyond what you pay for the actual metal, leather and rubber at the point of purchase. Fuel, insurance, maintenance and repair costs, and the cost of fees from the state and financing will all weigh on your wallet while you own the car. That’s not even taking into account the biggest cost: depreciation, or the amount of money you lose based on what your car is worth years from now versus the day you bought it.

KBB tracks these sorts of things, and they’ve compiled a list of winners for 2013 models. On the brand level, Mazda has earned the 5-Year Cost to Own award for having the lowest overall projected five-year totals. Read the rest of this entry »

2014 Mazda6 Heads to World’s Most Well-Known Billboard

December 20th, 2012

Mazda North American Operations (MNAO) today announced its first ever billboard advertisement in New York’s famed Times Square. Nearly 105 years after the first New Year’s Eve ball dropped at what was then called Times Tower, the 2014 Mazda6 will be a significant feature of the celebratory festivities at One Times Square. More than 117 million people are expected to see the 16,000-plus square-foot billboard, which will show a combination of running and still images of the all-new vehicle starting on December 19, 2012, and running until March 31, 2013.

“The all-new 2014 Mazda6 is the most technologically advanced vehicle we have ever sold,” said Russell Wager, vice president of marketing, MNAO. “To introduce this vehicle to the U.S. in the biggest possible way, we chose the most notable and iconic city in the world. And to have the unique opportunity to access the tallest LED billboard in Times Square is the perfect way to tell the Mazda story.”

2013 MX-5 Miata: Car & Driver 10Best, Again!

December 10th, 2012

The 2013 Mazda MX-5 Miata has been named to Car and Driver’s 10Best Cars list for the eighth straight year and 14th overall since the vehicle made its global debut in 1989. With a nearly 50:50 weight distribution, the small-in-size MX-5 offers a hefty dose of road-hugging handling and superior driving dynamics, making the roadster a favorite among weekend warriors and daily drivers alike.

“The MX-5 Miata sets the bar high on sports car performance and driving pleasure, which is not lost among its increasing fan base as the vehicle continues to be a world record holder as both the most popular two-seat roadster ever built and the most raced nameplate in motorsports,” said Jim O’Sullivan, president and CEO, Mazda North American Operations (MNAO). “Sleek, stylish and sporty – the MX-5 remains an uncomplicated sports car with such a visceral driving experience you won’t want to take your hands off the steering wheel.”

Mazda Considering Minicar Market

November 16th, 2012

According to Ichiro Hirose, Mazda Europe’s research and development vice-president, stated that Mazda is “interested in the premium sub-B class, and we could have a car launched within the next two or three years”.

Mazda had designs on dueling the MINI Cooper and similarly-sized vehicles dating back as far as 2008. The growing market for small, city-savvy cars has only increased Mazda’s drive. Mazda’s Kiyora concept car never made it to production, but the Mazda2 was welcomed warmly in the small car market. With the subcompact’s release under their belts, is Mazda ready for a smaller step?
